Can anyone tell me – seriously – the benefits of a colon cleanse? Is it something you recommend? I have been reading just a bit about how so many things are effected by the colon and how you can feel so run down, bloated, be unsuccessful with losing weight, suffer from irritable bowel syndrome, have digestive problems, etc. all from neglecting your colon. I am just not sure if this has any truth behind it or not. Is a colon cleanse worth having? Is it an expensive process? How do you go about looking into something like this? I realize this topic is a bit off the wall, but any serious help or information would be most beneficial.
Thank you ever so much.
I don’t think it is necessary. But I think it can be helpful in a minor way. When we are young our bodies work very well. I think with just a simple good diet with plenty of vegetables and fruit our colon does well on its own. A person can work an enema bag at home and have some good benefits without the cost of an expensive colonic. I never did one of the colon cleanses that are taken orally. I did have colonic irrigation’s though. I did them once per day for three days in a row. My reason for doing it was constipation. It was very severe in my transverse colon. I grew up having a good diet but as I got lazy with my diet constipation sneaked up on me.
I was so very uncomfortable that I drove an hour for the treatments. I did have a feeling of well being and exhilaration after. I paid $50 for each visit. They cost more like $75 each now. After the therapy the therapist said I should work the enemas at home once per week.
I wanted to see if the colonics really worked and if my colon was filled with old material like people claim so I fasted before having the second treatment. The therapist said she was surprised how little came out. I didn’t admit that I didn’t eat. I wasn’t even hungry after my first treatment and felt really good. So that little test told me that my prior good diet and having home enemas kept my colon pretty clean and nothing major was stored up like people claim.
The bloated feeling really comes from poor eating and the sluggish bowels that result from the improper diet. The colonic really did make me feel so much more comfortable.
Many medical people think colonic are snake oil medicine. But I think they would be a great benefit for people in the hospital that are unable to move out of the bed for many months thus they have problems with bowel movements.
I think the biggest benefit for healthy people would be to empty the colon after they let their diet become so poor that they feel sluggish or constipated. A person can cleanse the whole colon at home with an enema bag but it can be uncomfortable and cause some cramping where a colonic is very comfortable. It really is soothing.
There can be some irriation from the nozzle when you do colonics two days or more in a row.
Many people feel better all over, as well as lighter and more comfortable so a colonic does seem like a great kick-start to a new diet.
Some sites claim a colonic can help with:
Allergies and intolerances
Irritable bowel syndrome IBS
Constipation
Diarrhoea
Flatulence
Bloating
Skin problems
Headaches
Candida (thrush / yeast infections)
I don’t know if they have any proof but I felt better. You simply look up colonic irrigation in the yellow pages and call for pricing and ask about their procedure. They might even have a website. I don’t see it as something to do on a regular basis but maybe once or twice per year at most. Then maybe only when you get sloppy with your diet and feel very sluggish.
Really though if we just start increasing the fruits and vegetable and drink enough water we will be clean as a whistle.
