Is Colon Cleansing a Scam or Not?

Posted by Cindy Papp on Sunday 18 April 2010

Colon cleansing is as old as herbal therapies. It has survived for thousands of years in spite of modern-day medicine. Why is this so? It is the latest craze of weight loss, an extreme idea put out by health nuts, or can it be a real choice in a healthier lifestyle?

Advocates of colon cleansing claim they enjoy many health benefits. These include; weight loss, healthier looking, glowing skin and even disease prevention. Some claim that a cleansing diet can help your body get rid of accumulated environmental toxins associated with disease. Then others say we have to use colon cleansing supplements in order to receive the true benefits.

The skeptics of holistic health, and colon cleansing specifically, say it can cause a number of health problems from dependency to death. Along with this, they say, those who sell it are only trying to make a buck.

Considering all this controversy, which ideas should be believe? Is colon cleansing the deadly demon? Is it true that the world is littered with thieves looking to make money off of your suffering or is it the cure that many claim? The best way to start researching is to first look at the facts.

Environmental Toxins: Is it Time to for a Colon Cleanse?

Since skeptics claim that colon cleansing sellers are scamming people for money, we must first examine the most accepted treatment. In most cases, this would be pharmaceuticals. The makers of these drugs make billions of dollars of profit every year. In fact, they can make a billion dollars only to have the drug-in-question pulled from the market because the side-effect turned out to be death.

Along with this, a poll conducted by the NPSF (National Patient Safety Foundation), sponsored by the American Medical Association and CNI (an insurance provider) found that over 100 million Americans have been directly or indirectly affected by a medical mistake. Yet no deaths have been caused by colon cleansing to this day.

In researching colon cleansing facts, you have to sort through the various options used. Some proponents use supplements and others say you must use colonics. Some say that you only need change your diet while others argue if this is cleansing the body or detoxing.

Skeptics use this type of diversity as their proof that colon cleansing must be a scam. And it is no wonder when you try to find your own information on Google about colon cleansing. The top websites are either scam repeaters or product sales pages with not much information to add to the credibility of why we should use this practice. This could turn a non-skeptic into one!

Looking at the other side of the coin, colon cleansing is not illegal, involves no drugs and does not have a track record of killing people. It has survived thousands of years being in use by people who still claim it’s health benefits.

Modern science is helping us decipher fact from fiction. Surprisingly, some old wives tales are being proven to be true such as; chicken soup helps you heal from the common cold and fish is brain food. So, it is being proven that nutrition is a viable health option. Scientific research is also proving that the average American’s blood contains some 180 different environmental toxins.

I believe the evidence if favor of colon cleansing is strong. I say this because nutrition is proven, toxins are proven to be building up in the human body, supplements seem to be safe and the standard medical option is just plain scary.
