About a colon cleanse detox type thing?

I’ve heard that over time you build up a lot of extra waste in your body and my digestive health hasn’t been the greatest lately, so I was wondering when should I do a detox thing and what should I use, preferably something natural?

Detoxification is the process of clearing toxins from the body or neutralizing or transforming them, and clearing excess mucus and congestion. Many of these toxins come from our diet, drug use, and environmental exposure, both acute and chronic. Internally, fats, especially oxidized fats and cholesterol, free radicals, and other irritating molecules act as toxins. Poor digestion, colon sluggishness and dysfunction, reduced liver function, and poor elimination through the kidneys, respiratory tract, and skin all add to increased toxicity.

Detoxification involves dietary and lifestyle changes which reduce intake of toxins and improve elimination. Avoidance of chemicals, from food or other sources, refined food, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, and many drugs helps minimize the toxin load. Those lifestyle changes are a direct result of choices you make in your life. Transcendental meditation has helped me make marked improvements in not only my health and behavior but all aspects of my life. I highly recommend you look into it .

When detoxifying your colon, it is also important to incorporate probiotics in your diet to replenish your intestinal flora.

Bowel movements are the basis of your health. If you don’t have at least 1 bowel movement per day, you are already walking your way toward disease. Man’s body has not changed very much in the past several thousand years… however man’s diet has certainly changed a lot.     That’s a total medical non-fact. There is a HUGE misconception that the colon is some sort of "dirty" organ that needs constant cleaning lest waste become built up.

    That is completely un-true. It would be impossible for waste materials to build up over time without you suffering from a serious bowel obstruction, diverticulosis, or other health problems. The way people talk about that is like somehow everyone has a wad of poop stuck to the walls of their intestines. This is impossible for several reasons:

    1. The colon is constantly cleaning itself. The mere act of going to the bathroom is part of the colon’s great power to clean itself. Cells are constantly being shed from the lining of the intestines. Even if waste could build up inside the colon, it would just be sluffed off when the intestine shed cells.
    2. There is a delicate balance of microflora living inside the intestine that digest food and absorb nutrients.

    Excessive use of detox and colon cleanses creates an inhibiting environment for the good bacteria to grow. There’s no research to suggest that a colon cleanse somehow "dissolves" the bad waste and "skips over" the good bacteria. If you’re going to clean the colon, it’s all going to come out…meaning if you cleanse a lot, you will lose the good bacteria in the intestine which will lead to more digestive problems.

    If you go the enema route, you could perforate the bowel (although I think occasional use of enemas to releive constipation is ok).

    If you go the supplement route, there’s no way you can actually know what’s in the supplement, since it isn’t regulated by the FDA.

    There is really no need clean your colon. It does that just fine on its own. If you’re having digestive issues, its almost always diet related. Change your diet, and it will subside. You could also be lacking in pro-biotics (so cleaning your colon will just make that worse), so you could try a pro-biotic supplement.

    LOL. The other poster’s answer was copied directly from the Bowtrol website. How do I know? I write infomercials for a living (sad but true), and I’ve written bowtrol commercials and website blurbs before.

    DO NOT use Bowtrol. It’s a total scam. Whenever I have to write about one of those off-brand supplements, it’s hard not to laugh. Bowtrol Pro-biotic contain lactospore, which is just their fancy brand-name version of the same bacteria found in yogurt…for twice the cost. Their colon control supplement is just activated charcoal and bentonite clay…neither are harmful, but you can get the same soluble-fiber effect from oatmeal (Again, half the cost).

    Their colon cleanse is just a blend of laxative herbs.References :
